How to read a supplement label: five checks
Check the serving size first, because every amount on the panel refers to it. Then read the ingredient list, including the allergen statement.
Look for the manufacturer name and address, the batch number and the expiry date. In India a food-safety licence number should also be printed on the pack.
Finally, read the directions and cautions. Supplements complement a balanced diet and should not replace it; speak to a healthcare professional if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition.
